Besides the issue of age, leaks in the exhaust are caused by corrosion (rust). Corrosion on exhaust components can occur due to condensation effects (due to the temperature difference between inside and outside the exhaust pipe) or because of the relatively high salt content in the air around the vehicle.
From the description, there are some actions we need to consider to avoid leaks in the exhaust.
- Do not be too often idling (stationary) or driving in a low speed in a long time. This is to prevent precipitation of water in the exhaust pipe.
- Maintain cleanliness of parts under the vehicle especially during the rainy season, among these are the exhaust pipe or channel.
